Do you agree energy security is a major concern and global warming/climate change is today’s harsh reality ? ART-PV India Team is working on How to mitigate this with our efforts in developing a new affordable, accessible and green solution using a new class of solar cell technology!
Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have emerged as a highly promising technology in the realm of next generation thin film photovoltaics. With their potential for efficient energy generation and minimal energy payback time, PSCs offer significant advantages. As single junction devices, PSCs have achieved an impressive efficiency of 26.1% over a cell area of approximately 5 mm². Additionally, the tunable bandgap inherent to perovskite semiconductors makes them well-suited for use as top cells in conjunction with silicon or other low bandgap solar cell technologies, further enhancing their applicability. Chinese solar technology company, LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd., achieved the highest efficiency perovskite/silicon tandem cells with a PCE of approximately 33.9%, as reported on November 3, 2023. Notable academic institutions such as King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) and Helmholtz Centre Berlin have also made significant strides, with KAUST reaching a PCE of around 33.7%. Oxford PV, in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute, set a new record with a panel PCE of 25%.
Our research team is successful in making transparent perovskite solar cell with state-of-the-art efficiency over an area of 17.5 mm2 and 80 mm2, these NIR-transparent solar cell in combination with 23% industrial silicon solar cell could provide a PCE ~29% in 4T configuration. We believe going towards 2T and optical engineering will allow us to make this PCE close 31-32%. Along with PCE we need to scale-up these devices with industry compatible deposition processes.
